Product 01

CRGO Laminations

CRGO (Cold Rolled Grain Oriented) silicon steel is the standard core material for power and distribution transformers. The grain structure is aligned during rolling, which is what allows the core to carry flux efficiently along the rolling direction. We supply CRGO laminations cut to the profile and dimensions specified by the customer, including mitred (45 degree) ends for mitred and step-lap core construction as well as plain square-cut pieces.

CRNGO Laminations

CRNGO (Cold Rolled Non-Grain Oriented) steel has uniform magnetic properties in all directions in the plane of the sheet. That makes it the practical choice wherever flux does not follow a single fixed path — motors, alternators, small transformers, ballasts and a wide range of electrical assemblies.

Product 03

Transformer Core Laminations

A transformer core is built from many thin, insulated laminations stacked together rather than one solid block — that is what keeps eddy-current losses down. We prepare lamination sets so the yoke and limb pieces arrive matched, counted and ready for the stacking bench.

Product 04

CRGO & CRNGO Strips

Strip is electrical steel slit down to a working width before it is cut into finished laminations. Customers who run their own cutting or stamping operation frequently buy at this stage. Widths are slit against the width list you supply.

Product 05

E & I Laminations

The E and I profile is the most widely used shape in small single-phase transformers and chokes. The E pieces and I pieces interleave to form a closed magnetic path with a minimal air gap. We supply E & I laminations in the profile sizes our customers ask for.

Product 06

Custom Cut Laminations

A large share of our work is not a catalogue item at all. Customers send a drawing, a dimension sheet or a physical sample of an existing lamination, and we work out the cutting against it. If you are replacing a lamination for a machine that is no longer supported, a sample piece is usually enough to start the discussion.

Material Notes

CRGO and CRNGO — the practical difference

Useful if you are specifying material for the first time or comparing quotes.

CRGO — Cold Rolled Grain Oriented

The grain structure is deliberately aligned during rolling, so magnetic performance is strongest along the rolling direction. That suits transformer cores, where the flux path is fixed and predictable, and it is why CRGO is the default choice for distribution and power transformer laminations.

CRNGO — Cold Rolled Non-Grain Oriented

Magnetic properties are broadly uniform in every direction in the plane of the sheet. That is what you want where flux does not follow one fixed path — motors, alternators, ballasts, chokes and many small transformers.

Why laminations instead of solid steel

A solid core would carry large circulating eddy currents and waste energy as heat. Building the core from many thin, insulated laminations breaks up those current paths, which is the whole reason the material is supplied as thin sheet in the first place.

Getting the specification right

Grade, thickness and profile all interact with the core design and the losses you are willing to accept. Rather than publishing figures that may not suit your application, we discuss it against your actual requirement.
